LEGI helps local businesses compete for public sector trade

LEGI Coventry
Speakers at Supply2Cov event

Over 130 people from Coventry-based businesses, social enterprises and voluntary and community organisations gathered at the Windmill Village Hotel in Coventry on the 29th and 31st January 2008 for a series of Public Procurement Information events organised by Supply2Cov. The two-hour briefings conveyed a broad range of information designed to help them access trading opportunities within Coventry City Council and the wider public sector.

Supply2Cov, a LEGI (Local Enterprise Growth Initiative) funded project run by Coventry City Council Procurement Services, aims to support regeneration in Coventry by re-directing Council spend into the local economy. One of the ways in which the project does this is by encouraging local businesses to access and compete for Council trade.

The project will be running a further six procurement workshops in February and March, followed by a ‘Meet the Buyers’ event in April. Here, representatives from Coventry businesses will be given the chance to meet public sector buyers direct in order to discuss prospective trade opportunities.

“These information events are the ideal forum for Coventry-based businesses to learn about the public sector and how to trade with the Council and other similar organisations,” commented Rebecca Young, Regeneration Strategy and Resources Manager at Coventry City Council. “We hope that businesses take advantage of the comprehensive programme of support now in place.”
